Too many medals in Rio for the UK?

Is this what civilization is about?
The UK invested £60m before Sydney 2000 chasing Olympic success.
By Rio 16 years later this had grown to just under £280m.
How many hip replacements could have been bought for this? More than 23,000.

Team GB has climbed the medal table from 36th in Atlanta, to second in Rio.
It’s nice to win, but a tad hypocritical that the UK press criticized “communist” countries in the last century for subsidising an “amateur sport”, but now do exactly the same.

Is this wrong?

Janet Street-Porter asked why, after all this investment, the number of British people participating in sport actually fell since 2012.

How self centered we all are.
To swap  and two weeks of good TV for the pain of 23,000 hips.

Now 70, I'm getting back into website development and brand protection, as well as showcasing the delightful artistic talents of my beautiful wife Lynne. My projection will encompass a lifetime of database marketing, as well as the Christian democratic socialist ideals of my wife and I.
