Is it all over?

Tonight Sheffield Wednesday play Manchester City in the League cup.
With spending of £930 million in 1993 the league champions from Manchester will be odds on favorites to win the match, but Wednesday hope to put up a creditable fight, and in the best traditions of underdogs everywhere pull off a win.
I remember being on the Hillsborough Kop in April 1970, when a defeat at home to City relegated Wednesday from the top flight. On that fateful evening City seemed to try and gift Wednesday the match, but Wednesday would have none of it and were relegated to the second tier.
Difficult to reconcile that I began a lifelong affair with the Owls in 1960-61 when they’d finished runners up to the double winning Spurs team, and for half that decade never finished lower than 6th, and in 1966 almost won the FA Cup.
But that was then and now we are in a different age, when successful entrepreneurs can make vast profits on the back of worldwide sponsorship deals.
Wednesday aren’t immune from such business, and I can’t say that I’m over impressed with the business record of Milan, our current chairman.
But for tonight let us dispel such thoughts and hope for a shock win.
I was at the Etihad last year when City were turned over by Bayern Munich 3-1.
In football over 90 minutes anything is possible
As a postscript I have just momentarily surfed the net and discovered that the militant so called Muslims had beheaded a French tourist. It makes me feel sick that I can write about football with such evil in our midst.
Oh God. Why don’t you occasionally intervene?
