Thirteen years ago today was a sunny day in Accrington, England as it was in NYNY.
Why I was watching the TV I don’t know, but in mid afternoon as I was waiting for
Lynne to arrive home from school I was riveted by viewing scenes of remarkable heroism against a backcloth of calculated evil.
https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/Clur96dcwZ0&source=udsA couple at our church by chance stayed in a hotel at the base of one of the towers, and witnessed what they thought to be large birds flying past their bedroom window. They weren’t birds, but humans jumping to their death from a burning, collapsing tower. I called dear friends in New Jersey, to learn that their elder son had not gone to work that day because it was his grandmother’s funeral. He worked in the World Trade Center, where around 3,000 died as a result of fanatical extremists.
Mohammed will disown these aggressors as surely as he would disown those who are currently beheading innocents in the middle east.
We are living through terrible times and we must meet aggression with love, of course, but also with an iron determination not to be be bullied.
