When I caught the 16.57 from London’s Euston station last Friday and overheard a comment by a fellow lady passenger regarding the the death of Margaret Thatcher I asked her to explain what she was saying.
She said that it was unfair of people to say things that hurt the Thatcher family. Despite what they may feel about Mrs T, those left behind should be allowed to bereave, she claimed.
But Mrs T was not so different.
We have now seen the back of a woman who has done a lot of damage to many.
To the mining communities she destroyed;
to the memory of Liverpool football fans who were killed at Hillsborough,
and to the hundreds of Argentine sailors who drown when she personally ordered the sinking of the Belgrano, a retreating ship. Replay the You Tube video of her explaining why she ordered this act of murder.
As a final insult we have to pay for her funeral as the PM hopes to make political capital out of a sick woman’s death.
It’s quite appropriate that Ding Dong the witch is dead is currently at Number One in the hit parade.
