Hey Jonathan and Alice
World class footballers Pele, Bobby Moore, and Ossie Ardiles together with actors Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone starred in the film Escape to Victory, a 1981 film about Allied prisoners of war interned in a prison camp during World War II.
It was fictional, but last week the England football team, in Poland to play in the Euro 2012 championships, went on a day trip to Auschwitz concentration camp. 1.1 million people were murdered at Auschwitz, a million of whom were Jewish.
Auschwitz was the most vivid example of man’s inhumanity to man the world has known. And God, where were you? I look forward to asking you early in my stay in Heaven.
Wayne Rooney had to fight back the tears as he experienced the memories.
Footballers aren’t expected to have brains anywhere else than in their boots, so it was good to see that Wayne Rooney was so affected.
We look forward to Rooney getting back into the starting line-up next week.
We drew against France, but the rest of the preliminary games should be less fraught.
