A passion for football in NYNY

Wednesday will seal promotion to the Championship
if they beat relegated Wycombe Wanderers today

My Jonathan
One of the deprivations of life in Manhattan is the inability of natives to talk with little more than a tiny knowledge about  football (which they insist on calling soccer).
Today is one of those days in the football calendar that will end in tears for many, and champagne for a few.

In another hour Wednesday will embark on a very  important match against lowly Wycombe Wanderers – who I can’t ever remember winning anything. If you’re up and about, you can listen to the fun on the internet as you eat breakfast. Even more interesting to you will the fact that Arsenal only managed a 3-3 draw at home to Norwich, thus opening an opportunity for Spurs to leapfrog them if they beat Villa tomorrow. As you know I have an account with Wednesday Player, which allows you to listen to any game being broadcast, live. My username is roberta and password is the one I always use. It will be interesting to see if it http://www.swfc.co.uk/page/player/LiveMatches/0,,10304,00.html) works for you in the US. Since fans were calling in from places as remote as Bangkok and Tibet, I guess you will be OK.

Later in the afternoon Liverpool take on Chelsea in the FA Cup at 17.15
Brian and a friend managed to get tickets, but it’s in the Chelsea end. I wonder if he’ll wear a rosette.

You probably will be aware of other news, like the new England manager (Roy Hodgson), and the fact that Chelsea will probably buy Battersea Power station for a 60,000 seat home.
Also, news may not have reached you that Frickley lost to Worksop in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup final, staged at Hillsborough.

Have a good weekend.
