Older and wiser

Last night we had Verity and Harri sleep over. Since it was only one day after Harri’s birthday we had a “Hello Kitty” birthday theme tea party’ with incidental presents (real Pippa Pigs, and a pink purse).  After tea we went for a walk on Back Lane, as far as our neighbour’s horses, and back home for a shower and bedtime story. Unfortunately Nanna slipped as we climbed down some banking and bruised her back – it’ll undoubtedly be a colourful bruise by tomorrow.

At home I looked into Facebook and learned that an American acquaintance 40 years ago had since committed suicide. Such is life on planet earth. On the one hand it’s sweetened by birthday treats, and on the other hand it’s mournful, sad.
Today has echoed the importance of the quote by Etty Hillesum at the top of this blog, under the picture of the burned out London bus, after a suicide bomber had “answered his calling”.
Etty was a young Dutch Jewish woman, who at one point wrote in her diary: “Sometimes when I stand in some corner of the camp, my feet planted on earth, my eyes raised towards heaven, tears run down my face, tears of deep emotion and gratitude.”

Did she write this in a holiday camp? No, ‘fraid not?

Etty Hillesum died in Auschwitz, aged 29. She shines as an example for all of us, an enthusiast of life’s positive experiences, which overshadow its adversities.

Now 70, I'm getting back into website development and brand protection, as well as showcasing the delightful artistic talents of my beautiful wife Lynne. My projection will encompass a lifetime of database marketing, as well as the Christian democratic socialist ideals of my wife and I.
